National Council Update
ASPA Section and Chapter leaders have been formally invited by the National Council to meet in Washington DC September 6, 2014 to “engage in a strategic conversation aimed at identifying ways (the Executive Office) can be more responsive and service-oriented to you (Sections and Chapters); to develop approaches to facilitate greater communications and collaboration; and to determine effective practices that individual Sections and Chapters use that could be a model for others.” Vice President Susan Gooden is leading the meeting and I will be representing our Section at this meeting. If you have any thoughts on this approach, please feel to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Our very active membership has sent a series of emails to other ASPA Sections asking them to share their practical information on ASPA’s Good Governance Worldwide Web site. We received immediate responses from the International Chapter, the Section on Personnel Management, the LGBT Section, and we look forward to their contributions in the months ahead.
ASPA’s 2015 Annual Conference
The call for proposals for the 2015 ASPA Annual Conference deadline is September 19, 2014. Currently on the ASPA Web site, you can review the conference tracks for ideas and submission guidelines for the Chicago event – March 6-10, 2014.
Florida League of Cities Symposium
The Florida League of Cities is offering a free research symposium – “Building a Bridge from the Classroom to City Hall: Academic Research Brought to Life for the Public Administration Practitioner.” It is August 13, 2014, at the Westin Diplomat, Hollywood, Florida. I think this is just a great idea, and if I wasn’t in the midst of budget season, I would attend. Nevertheless, I hope some of my friends can attend and will let me know how the symposium enlightens the way.
Keep in touch, I am only an e-mail away, and tell me your ideas, thoughts and comments.
Until next month,
Chairperson, ASPA Section on Public Management Practice
OMB Director, City of Hialeah, FL
