Dear Colleague:
On September 29, 2006 the National Tax Association, in partnership with the
Office of Tax Policy Research at the University of Michigan, is sponsoring
a one-day conference at the Holiday Inn Capitol in Washington, D.C. The
topic is "5 Key Perspectives You Can Learn from Other Professions and
Disciplines about Tax Policy." Representatives of several different
disciplines and professions will highlight the five key perspectives others
should know from their discipline or profession – and what they could do
differently in their area as a result.
This conference is an opportunity to absorb some important insights about
the various disciplines and professions that comprise the tax community.
The conference will provide meaningful discussion about teaming across
disciplines and professions to more effectively achieve common tax policy
and tax administration goals. Plus, we think it will be a unique and fun
interchange among colleagues.
We would like to invite you to attend this conference. The registration
fee is $95 for those who are not currently members of the National Tax
Association. The registration fee also provides a one-year membership in
the National Tax Association, a nonpartisan, nonpolitical educational
association that fosters study and discussion of issues in tax theory,
practice and policy, as well as other aspects of public finance. The NTA
is a venerable institution, next year celebrating its 100th anniversary,
that has long played a central role in bringing state-of-the-art thinking
to ongoing government tax and spending issues. Membership in the NTA
provides a subscription to the National Tax Journal, a quarterly
publication, and the NTA Network, an online publication, invitation to the
Annual Conference on Taxation (this year to be held in Boston on November
16-18), the NTA Spring Symposium (held annually in Washington, D.C. in
May), and special conferences and symposia such as this one.
For those coming from out of town, a group of rooms has been reserved at
the Holiday Inn Capitol. If you need hotel reservations, please tell them
that you are with the UOM group, and they will grant you the conference
rate of $229. To get the conference hotel rate, you’ll need to respond by
August 15.
A tentative agenda and registration form is attached. We hope you will
join us for what promises to be a unique, informative, and stimulating
conference.
Sincerely yours,
Tom Neubig Joel Slemrod
