[ABFM] GASB at the ABFM Annual Conference

The Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) will have a
significant presence at this week's ABFM annual conference. The GASB is
holding an open forum on Friday during the 3:15 to 4:45 concurrent
panels session. All ABFM members are invited to attend. The topic is the
GASB's research on the issue of intergovernmental financial dependency
and related risks. The GASB is seeking input from ABFM members on the
importance of this issue to understanding a government's financial
health, possible approaches to studying the issue, the types of
information necessary for assessing these risks, and the need for and
desirability of setting financial reporting or disclosure standards to
provide that information. 

 

ABFM also is hosting a meeting of the Governmental Accounting Standards
Advisory Council (GASAC). ABFM has been a member of the GASAC since
2002; its current representative is Bill Voorhees. All GASAC meetings
are open to the public and ABFM members are encouraged to drop in and
see how they are represented and the role ABFM plays in standards
setting. The GASAC will be meeting 3:00-5:00 pm on Thursday and 8:00
am-1:15 pm on Friday. Topics include derivatives, performance
measurement, and the GASB's project priorities.

 

Finally, the plenary session on Friday, 1:30-3:00, will feature Bob
Attmore, GASB chairman, Keith Johnson, GASAC chairman and Idaho state
comptroller, and David Bean, GASB director of research and technical
activities. This will be an open question-and-answer session, so come
armed with your questions about the GASB and GASAC, ABFM's relationship
with them and role in standards setting, or any governmental accounting
and financial reporting issue.
