Public Administration
 
The Division of Public Administration at Northern Illinois University
invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position to
begin August 2008.  This position requires a Ph.D. in Public
Administration or a related field; all requirements for the degree must
be completed by the start date of the appointment.
 
Successful applicants will possess evidence of or demonstrated
potential for excellence in research and publication, graduate and
undergraduate teaching, and pursuit of extramural funding.  The
individual hired will be expected to address teaching needs in
non-profit management and human services policy; applicants from across
the disciplinary areas in public administration are encouraged to apply.

 
The faculty of the Division has built a strong reputation in research
on local government, and the majority of the MPA students are beginning
careers in local government or are already established in local
government administration.  The Division maintains relationships with
its alumni, many of whom work throughout the Chicago-land area.  The
Division fields about 50 full time internship option students throughout
the Chicago metropolitan area.  Applicants are encouraged to visit the

The Division of Public Administration is a semi-autonomous unit with
eight faculty members who also hold appointments in the Department of
Political Science.  The Division is solely responsible for the NASPAA
accredited Master of Public Administration program.  Division faculty
also teach undergraduate political science courses and are responsible
for the public administration field in the Department*s Ph.D. program. 
Public administration students comprise the largest cohort within the
doctoral program.
 
NIU is located 60 miles west of Chicago and enrolls more than 22,000
students, including a graduate body of over 6,400.  Instruction is
offered at three off-campus sites * Hoffman Estates, Rockford and
Naperville.  NIU is located in a vibrant economic region that
experiencing steady population growth.
 
Applicants must submit a letter of application, a curriculum vita, and
letters from three references.  Applicants should be prepared to provide
teaching evaluations on request.  Review of complete applications will
begin on October 8, 2007, but the search will remain open until the
