Subject: [ABFM] Proposing New ASPA Section-Democracy and Social Justice
Dear ABFM Colleagues:
Together with some of my colleagues here at the University of Nebraska
at
Omaha and elsewhere, we are attempting to form a new section of ASPA,
focused on social justice and democracy. To do so, we need to have 85
people express a willingness to be involved in this section. Information
on
it is given below. I would encourage you to express your support of the
section if you have some interest in these issues. Please feel free to
contact me if you have any questions.
Thank you for your consideration,
John

Subject
Hello, PA colleagues. We are interested in proposing a new ASPA section,
titled "Democracy and Social Justice." The statement of purpose for the
proposed section is:
Proposed ASPA section on Democracy and Social Justice. Since its
inception,
public administration has addressed issues of democracy and social
justice
and these issues are of interest to many ASPA sections. In recent years,
the focus has increasingly been on the role of the field and individual
public administrators in promoting social justice. Though the
professional
public service implements policies adopted by elected leaders, it also
plays a significant role in public understanding of societal conditions
and
in shaping policy formulation and implementation. Members of the
proposed
new section would explore administrative and political alternatives at
all
levels of government and promote constructive social change through
teaching, research, practice, conferences, and publications. The section
would also consult with other ASPA sections to focus on shared concerns
about democracy and social justice.
To form a new section, ASPA requires support of one percent of
the
membership, currently 85 members. The people whose names are listed
below
join us in asking whether you would be willing to participate in this
effort. To support the application for a new section, please send an
email
message to Mr. Qiushi Wang, wqs204 at gmail.com, by June 1. The message
should
include your name, organizational affiliation, mailing address, phone
number, and email address.
Thank you for considering our request, and please write us if you have
questions.
