ESSENTIALS OF PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION

From 2001 through 2009, the State Academy for Public Administration and the Empire State Capital Area Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) produced the management development program Essentials of Public Administration in New York State, a nine-session seminar series featuring the State’s top government practitioners and leading public administration academics. Nearly 350 State managers, representing 40 agencies, graduated from Essentials during these years.

In mid-2010, the State Academy and ASPA suspended the Essentials program in deference to the fiscal climate. Almost immediately, Essentials was picked up by the Division of the Budget, the Governor’s Office of Employee Relations and the Department of Civil Service in a four-session, no-cost Transition Essentials program in October and November. The program and the presentations are available on the Budget Division’s website by clicking here, and a video of the proceedings will be posted in early December.
